Developed data access layer and business delegates for a complex web application. Made significant additions to the web UI using JSP and Struts, including the most complex data entry and reporting pages within the application. Introduced a use of design patterns in the data access layer to reduce development time and improve robustness. Gained extensive business knowledge to ensure the requirements were fully implemented.

Changed the Java code of a reporting application to access new DB2 views and tables. At the same time added/changed the functionality of the JSP/HTML reports, changed the help text to XML, and made improvements to the maintainability of the application.

I was one of a small team which developed a three-tier Java application which provides enterprise level “portfolio management” functionality and had responsibility for key, complex areas of the application.

Within the team I specialised in graphical/textual reporting which involved me writing and using custom GUI controls and complex SQL in JDBC calls. For version 7.0 of the application I made extensive changes to the architecture to support Portlet-like tiles within the client applet. I also designed and wrote the application’s datamart ETL program. For the timesheet feature I created both an applet interface and a HTML/Javascript one using servlets and having shared business logic.

I helped to develop the company's use of Oracle products in its service offering. I advised on Oracle product architecture and licensing, promoted awareness of new Oracle products and technology to sales, management and technical staff, encouraged training in these new products, performed pre-sales work, and helped with marketing collateral and sales strategy.

I also performed extensive development work with Oracle Forms, Pro*C and PL/SQL. I led the design and programming teams, acted as project manager, and performed training and product evaluation. I made regular visits to client sites across Europe for one of the larger customers.

I worked on a project to develop a group of oil stock accounting applications centred around a new common refinery database. I performed tasks from requirements analysis through to user acceptance support and spent some of my time team leading 4 - 5 analyst/programmers.
