Development and delivery of a .NET batch application to integrate credit and debit card transactions into the branch returns centralized database. Writing complex SQL SERVER stored procedures to integrate the branch returns with existing financial systems (CODA Retail). Development of SQL SERVER maintenance plans and DTS packages. Development of a web services architecture to share store information to multiple applications.

Government portal enabling agricultural businesses within the UK to submit XML based claims, through the Government Gateway, for EU subsidies. Re-engineering ASP web pages, VB COM components, and BizTalk XSL document transformation components. Responsible for the BizTalk conversion of XML documents into a suitable format for back end legacy payment systems. System delivered on schedule and achieved 50% growth in user numbers. Re-designed ASP pages to improve maintainability and the user experience.

Government web application to display and monitor the results of BSE testing in the UK. Sole responsibility for the analysis, development, delivery, and live support. Requirements gathering, external and internal design, ASP web page development, database creation, and database component development ( SQL SERVER DTS packages to import BSE testing data from Excel spreadsheets submitted by laboratories. Team leader after successful delivery.

DEFRA - Foot and Mouth ( 6 months Nov 00 – Apr 00 )

Co-lead the design and development of a system to record, and monitor the F&M disease. Liaison with government analysts to determine requirements. Development of the initial ASP based system to record all agricultural Premises within the UK, and all visits and restrictions placed on them as a result of the epidemic. The system grew organically from this point based on the changing requirements of the epidemic. Responsible for a major redesign of the pages and database. This system was described within DEFRA as the most important system it has ever needed. At the height of the epidemic the system scaled to over 1000 users a day with availability close to 100%.

Re-engineering of a legacy system to record time and budget expenditure of all IT projects undertaken at DEFRA. COM objects developed to implement business functionality. ADO code used to talk to an ACCESS 7 database.

Sole responsibility for the design, development, and support of an e-mailing system. The system automated MS Outlook from Visual Basic. ADO used to interrogate an ACCESS e-mail distribution database

External and internal design, development and unit testing Uniface GUI and server components, and VB COM components to support the pre-formulations and toxicology areas of the New Product Development business. IBM - RAF LITS Defence Project (Uniface, Informix 7, HP-UX UNIX ) ( 10 months. )
Development and unit test of Uniface components from detailed designs in a pressurised environment with tight deadlines. Instrumental in ensuring IBM met their deadlines on this fixed price project by estimating development effort needed, comparing with deadlines, and identifying the need to duplicate reports and manipulate each to meet requirements.
