Skills in more detail:
| CSS & XHTML Front End Development At a previous employer I mainly focused on “slicing” web pages from a flat image into a fully working website building the HTML and CSS by hand with content or ready to deploy into a database driven structure such as the South Bucks District Council’s homepage (http://www.southbucks.gov.uk). PHP & MySQL experience I only have 6 months of commercial PHP & MySQL experience but I am more than comfortable to build a product or service using it. I have developed my own website (http://www.getdarker.co.uk) in PHP and also my own Facebook application (http://apps.facebook.com/profilemusicplayer/) which has approximately 4,000 unique users that use the application to share their music on their Facebook profiles. In my own time for my own website I have developed a very basic content management system and an email newsletter system that sends out HTML emails over a period of time to our subscribers. I am also in the process of developing a shopping cart that will serve both products and digital downloads. I am currently going through and learning the SimpleXML extension to read XML sheets. AJAX & JavaScript With the increasing use of AJAX around the internet it is impossible to ignore it and it is something I find exciting and very interesting. I currently play around with two JavaScript frameworks called “mootools” and “jQuery” which I will be using heavily on my website when it is due a redesign in the next month. I am very comfortable with JavaScript. Basic ASP Development I was assigned a few tasks at my previous placement which were to build new plug-ins for the in-house Content Management System they provided for clients and modify old ones built by previous members of staff such as an “Ask the Guru” system for a charity called Resource Alliance (http://www.resource-alliance.org). The plug-in enabled users to submit questions to fundraising gurus (which change each month) and is a method of sparking interest and bringing people back to the website. There is also another plug-in I worked on for Resource Alliance called Speakers & Sessions which basically archives all their data from their conferences into a manageable system that is accessible via their website (http://www.resource-alliance.org/ifc/). I also worked on a website called WaterAid Munro Challenge which was a basic re-branding of the previous website and developing some additional functionality – most of it behind the scenes such as CSV export of recorded data. Photoshop experience I do not have a great deal of Photoshop experience however I am very comfortable with editing someone else’s work and creating banners, headings, buttons, icons and other imagery. I have only designed two websites using Photoshop, both of which were my own. Web Accessibility With the increasing use of AJAX and JavaScript on websites it is hard to follow Accessibility – especially with disabled users. I have worked with several websites such as South Bucks District Council and Sevenoaks District council to help make their websites more accessible using a program called Bobby and creating “AAA” websites. Other I have experience with many open source tools and free services on the internet so here is a small list; • Google Analytics • Google Adsense • Payment Gateways o Protx o RSM • Facebook Applications • JW FLV Player • phpBB • Invision Power Board |
