Employment History

(Mar 2005 & ongoing)

Senior Developer

I was part of a small team (8 - 12 people) working on a multi-million pound project to develop web-based tools to support the renewal and maintenance of the UK rail system using an agile development process.
As one of the senior members of the team I was responsible for creating and maintaining standards and for training and mentoring junior members of the team.
Using an agile methodology meant that I was involved in the whole project lifecycle from requirements to maintenance.
The first prototype application was developed using Java but to gain improvements in productivity it was decided that all the subsequent development would use Ruby on Rails.
The success of this project – the first agile project within Network rail - contributed to higher quality maintenance of the railways and a large reduction in costs.
